It was a beautiful Wednesday night and my husband and I were looking for a neighborhood place where we could sit outside. We lucked out by happening on this place! The octopus appetizer was DELICIOUS! There wasn't a drop left on the plate. And the pizza was the best I've had since moving to the UWS. Can't wait to go back and try more.

I got the medium Numero 28 pizza. It was oval shaped and it was fairly large! I ate every bite! The creaminess of the sauce and the saltiness of the proscutto was really good. And the best part was that the resturant was within walking distance of my hotel! I got my pizza to go but the place was fairly busy so when I dine in, I will be making a reservation or coming in early.

I haven't had a pizza this good on the upper west side ever :) Thin crust, great sauce- I had one with artichoke, ham, olives and it wasn't just sprinkled with ingredients, they were baked in with the cheese. Very filling and I look forward to ordering a pasta dish or salad next.
(5)Sebastian K.
Another eh! Pizza. Nothing to say about it. Very bad prepared and served. You order a cheese pizza and you end up eating slices without cheese so it's NOT a cheese pizza. Same with Margherita, Quattro Stagione, etc. The ingredients are thrown in there like confetti. Same waiter told me that you need to order the individual pizza that is done better. But... I'm not going to go back so suit yourself!

Yes yes yes!! The numero 28 pizza is the bomb: truffle cream and prosciutto. How can you go wrong? I'm craving it right now. It helps that they deliver to my apartment. They also have a stellar plain Margharita Pizza. If you're not as much of a fan of stronger flavors, steer clear of pizza with Gorgonzola on it, it was a bit too strong for me. The pizza here is great for sharing, no matter what size group you have, as you can get different sized pizzas and also switch in and out different toppings. Numero 28 also has a great selection of wine and friendly waiters.
(5)David N.
Numero 28 generally doesn't disappoint when it comes to pizza. It is still one of my favorite pizza joints in the city. This West Village location with the wood interior with a friendly staff on a super rainy night was just what we were in the mood for. I'd have to say the population change is quite noticeable between locations. This location put out the same quality of pizza which is nice. I just rather prefer the East Village or the Greenwich location thought. No offense to the UWS peeps. I just like like vibe below 14th....ie no tables full of kids.
(4)Haider H.
Another Great experience, the staff are really friendly, the food is tasty. That's a Great Combo. The Ravioli is amazing the best I've had.
(5)Isabella B.
AMAZING food and service! We hosted a birthday party at Numero 28 and I was blown away by the service and care from the entire staff of the restaurant. Everyone was working really hard to make sure all of the guests were happy, and the food came quickly and was delicious as always! It's rare to find restaurants where you feel like you're really taken care of.

This is the REAL deal, my friends. Black and white photos from Italy on the walls, Italian waitstaff. And you might have noticed by my pizza to other review ratio that I am a pizza fiend. My boyfriend and I stumbled into this place, lured by the brick oven advert on the storefront. We ate in under 45 minutes, and shared an 18" Buffala Mozzarella pizza; it was DIVINE; seriously, Michelangelo would have painted a ceiling about it. A bit on the pricey side, but splitting an 18" pizza makes it more reasonable. We also indulged in some wine, which complemented the pizza beautifully. I will definitely make excuses to come back.
(5)William K.
Every item was delicious and lacked for nothing.. Shared with family. Hand made pasta with egplant. Sea scallop (size of a hockey puck almost lol) rizzoto. Real pereroni Pizza from brick oven and app of mozzarella and cherry tomatoes. Plus desert of panacotta with bluberry reduction. Super great wait staff very attentive. Nice italian beer. Great location and nice music mellow but modern. Five stars. would love if seats had a little cushion.
(5)Z M.
Great restaurant, caring staff & yummy food. Every time we come here we end up loving it more than we did the last time!
(5)Val R.
This place has a really fun atmosphere. It was BYO when I went (not sure if it still is because the UWS location changed). The pizzas are worth the price especially when you split a few with friends.

I ordered from Numero 28 for the first time tonight through Seamless. I live in the neighborhood and have never dined in the restaurant or ordered from them before. But we wanted pizza and decided to try something new. Big mistake. On Seamless the menu offers different sizes for their pizzas, so we ordered an 18 inch. By NYC standards, we were expecting a round 18 inch pizza. What we got was a rectangular pizza about 18x9 inches. As there was no indication on the Seamless menu that the pizza would be smaller than a standard 18 inch, we called the restaurant. The woman who answered was SO incredibly rude as kept talking over me about how it's clear in the restaurant that these are not round pizzas (After I said I've never been there and this was my first order). She kept saying the issue is with Seamless and not their restaurant and that they weigh the pizza and it's the same size and it's how pizza is made in Italy (I've been to Italy, what is her point) and that they have 5 locations in the city and no one has EVER complained (really?). My issue is that we received a smaller pizza than advertised, which she kept denying and insisted they were the same size. Umm, do the math. We called again later to complain to the manager who basically made the same excuses and made no attempt to remedy the situation. Terrible business etiquette. We'll stick with our usual Patsy's from now on. P.S. To the Numero 28 management, I had a similar situation with a Seamless order from a Japanese restaurant I'd never used before. They took over an hour to deliver so I called to complain. The manager immediately gave me a credit for the next time I ordered, and now they have a regular customer. If they treated me the way Numero 28 did, would that be the case?
(1)Robin G.
Amazing pizza!! Definitely one of the very best in NYC!! Nice Italian people will make sure that everything goes well. The place is pleasant.. If you're in NY (even far from Numero 28), just try it! That's how good it is!
(5)Umbi A.
Número 28 's pizza is truly nothing for nothing the best part about this restaurant was the fact that you could BYOB .... However due to new management rules you can't do that anymore and the place isn't worth it anymore. Expensive average ( at best) pizza with an ambiance that is noisy and lacks coziness ..... I would skip this place wine is too expensive and pizza is nothing .... Try Kestè down the block! Same price 10x better quality
(2)Todd D.
Unfortunately a bad experience last night all service related which is a shame as we always find the food good. Ordered online and the time given was 30-45 minutes, after an hour the 5 of us and our 4year old we're getting quite hungry so called to chase. Despite a number of attempts to call we kept getting a voicemail, so had to go into the store to see what was going on. After alerting the Manager that the phone was off the hook it appeared our pizza had not even been started. It followed quickly after, a fumbling apology and an offer for a glass of wine but by this stage I had a hungry family to get back to with the goods! I would have expected the pizza to be free or discounted given the delays, inability to call and the fact that I had to wen go and pick it up myself but no. So they have lost a customer for failing to execute and recover.....a shame

Dinner with 10 friends @ Numero 28 - UWS. Salads, calamari, assorted pizzas, Cabernet. Most of the group had not dined @ Numero 28 but walked out of the door raving about the fine meal. Yeah, I'm a regular but it is really fun to turn my friends on to an amazing pizza experience. Check out the new photos!!!

We placed a to go order and it was not the best Italian food we have had in NYC. My friend is new to the neighborhood and after running around all day we decided to order in. For a restaurant that posts their menu in Italian in their website, it's shameful that they serve mushy spaghetti. The pepperoni pizza was just okay. They delivered on time but not with all the requested items (parm Cheese and bread, another salad). With so many good places to eat, it will be awhile before we try this one again (if at all).

Went to Number 28 on the Upper West Side tonight with friends. Immediately met up with the waitress Francesca and felt a vibe of her attitude as we were trying to request outdoor seating for a party of 6, we separated into two tables. A party of 4 and 2. I ordered a raspberry cocktail and it was awful. I nicely advised Francesca I would like a different drink and she took away the cocktail and shook her head as she walked away. When my pizza came, I asked for crushed red pepper and another server advised me they ran out. I looked around and saw numerous bottles of crushed red pepper at other tables which I pointed out to her and she quickly left to retrieve a bottle stating she misunderstood. Lastly, Francesca had the audacity to add a 20% tip after our horrific experience. We had that amended quickly! Food was just okay. Won't be back.

feed me seymore.. feed me...!!!! The family decided that it was time to feed, especially after a long day, prepping in the kitchen for a holiday. Thankfully, we were in a carbtastic mood and hopped over to Numero 28. I took one look at their menu- so many options. I glanced around to find food-inspiration. Some meals were very enticing! In the same glance, I luckily spotted a note on their menu saying its a cash only joint. side note: what's the deal with cash only places? Harumph! Anyhow, we ordered a large porcini mushroom and cheese pizza with a green salad and a bottle of wine. WOW! What a pizza! The ingredients are fresh!! We devoured the porcini and mozz pizza. The porcini mushrooms were so so so good. I'd guess and say there was at least $20 worth of porcini mushrooms on the pizza. The pizza was served to us on a large paddle looking pizza board. It was a large rectangle. The pizza had a great thin crust and delicious flavor and fresh (super fresh) mozzerella. Wow. Yummmmmm! Not only was the food great, the bottle of wine, which we paired with dinner was a great decision. Service was excellent. Our server came over to check on us, refilled our waters and asked about desert. PFFFFBBBTTTT. I was too full for desert.... at the moment. For those of your with little kids, Numero 28 is very family friendly! Also, adult friendly, with a good wine list and semi-full bar. Both indoor and a lovely outdoor sidewalk seating is available during the warmer months. I would totally come back after I replenish my wallet with cash and run a 5K.

I came across this place & decided to give it try since it seemed like people certainly enjoyed the food. I stopped by after work , no trouble being seated since the place was not crowded. Cute place , small cozy & dimly light. Nice wood fire oven in the center & small bar area. We sat down & once situated our waiter gave us the specials , they got us with the Fried calamari ... This came with a spicy mayo sauce , not bad great taste only complain on this it's kinda small. On the pizza we tried the Reginella , this is tomatoes , buffalo mozzarella & basil delicious nice & hot right out of the oven very tasty. I am not sure if the "cash only" is a plus ? Only because now a days who Carry's cash any more , not a bad thing but of course it would be more convenient if they accepted credit cards. We didn't get caught off guard by this since we did notice it on the menu but they probably should advertise this in a more obvious matter. Overall this place was a nice find , decent prices , good service & great pizza.

Wins 1st place for Best Fries? The Belgian Fries were unspeakably good. I didn't even see them on the menu but my boyfriend pointed them out and suggested we order it. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside. Unfortunately, we ran out of ketchup and our waitress didn't come back until much later so we did without. As we were rather hungry, the two of us decided to share the 18" Reginella thinking we would devour it. We ended up leaving with half of the pizza still to go but after the fries it just wasn't in the cards. The pizza was delicious. Usually I go over a margarita pizza and but I couldn't pass up the buffalo mozzarella. The pizza was obviously straight from the oven and had a great char on it. They even have chili oil which I love! I came for a late lunch or early dinner and the restaurant was empty. I hope business isn't always so bad. I really don't see how with such an amazing menu. The food was a bit on the pricey side, but what isn't in New York? And it was cash only unfortunately, but there's an ATM onsite. Aside from the ketchup fiasco, service was good. I would definitely go back here if I was in the area.

tried to order deliver for the first time and was told cash only, that if i wanted to use my debit card i had to order thru seamless or delivery.com . So I did. Ordered the eggplant parmesan appetizer and the proscuitto, gorgonzola and walnut appetizer. The eggplant was ok, a little bit undercooked and the proscuitto, gorgonzola and walnut appetizer was not what I expected or how it was described in the menu. I read the menu as it being a plate of uncooked proscuitto, gorgonzola and walnuts, kinda of a meat and cheese plate. It was 3 thick pieces of bread with the proscuitto, gorgonzola and walnuts melted on top. The proscuitto, which must have been less than an ounce was completely over cooked and very chewy, the gorgonzola had very little flavor and the walnuts were raw. Very disappointing dishes. It also took about 45 minutes and I live 2 blocks away.

Dont ever order from delivery from these guys. They took 2 hours to deliver & a 35$ pizza with prosciutto & buffalo mozzarella arrived cold as Ice. Im so not happy right now.
(1)Dan Y.
Best damn pizza I've had in a long time. I don't actually remember ever having better. Service was OK, but the pizza made up for it. I ordered a 14" Diavolo(?) and didn't think I would finish it. It was gone before I knew it. Finished off the meal with a canoli and espresso. Will definitely be coming back here next time I'm in NY!!
(5)Kate L.
Mmm pizzaaaaa!!!! I love the thin crispy crust on the pizza and they have such a great selection of toppings it'd be hard not to find something you love! The eggplant parm app was SOO GOOD! It was lighter than I would have expected (which I liked) but it was so filling and warming on a cold night, very good!

Late review My husband and i came with groupon. We had the pizza and the lasagna on a basil pesto. CASH ONLY PEOPLE The food was ok, nothinh special.about the pizza. Maybe im used to american pizza. The lasagna was good i liked it. Its a little pricey and the spacr is very tiny

Pizza! Pizza! Love pizza cafe on the UWS! Great customer service. They dropped our pizza on the way to serving and immediately offered an additional pizza for me. As it was my boyfriend and I, we declined but I asked for a glass of wine. Delicious pizza. Their diavolo option was pepperoni and wasn't very spicy at all which was a little bit of a bummer. But crunchy crust, fresh mozzerella, and outstanding sauce made up for it. A keeper!
(4)Odile S.
This is for the Upper West side place: excellent. Cons: Better to eat there than to order because we've had twice the experience of getting a pizza with far less ingredients than the one they serve when eating at the restaurant. Other than that, great tasty and fresh ingredients pizzas.
(4)Harper M.
Update: Got delivery this time. Took over an hour and a half for pizza to arrive, and it was not as good (appearance and taste) as in the restaurant. Will dine there again, but will probably look elsewhere for delivery.
(4)Beth V.
What's not to love about Italian food, especially when it's done right?! I can honestly say this is, hands down, my favorite Italian spot in the city. Forget Little Italy! The Numero 28 pizza (truffle cream, mozzarella cheese, prosciutto) melts in your mouth...it's something special! The crust is always cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. My favorite pasta is the lamb ragu pasta - their pasta tastes homemade and very, very fresh! Do yourself a favor and make the trek to the UWS to experience this gem!
(5)Karen S.
An fairly new pizza restaurant in the neighborhood. The interior is nice, with a view of the wood fired oven. The dining room opens out to the street on nice warm days. If you have your little puggle with you, they'll gladly set up a table outside. I don't personally have a dog, but I can't resist petting every strange dog I run across. Hi, Milo! Who's a good puppy?!? The pizza is meh at it's best. I ordered the small Rustica - mozzarella, peppers & sausage. I added garlic of course. More cheese than I expected... but with the accompanying cheese grease. It was saucy. But only a smattering of toppings. At this price point, $15, and for only 4 slices, I deserve a few more tiny bits of sausage and a lot more garlic. The crust was nicely charred, but too chewy for my tastes. *Sigh* This is yet another one of those Cash Only places that have been popping up lately. There's a $2 fee ATM in the back so it's not a hardship. The best I can say is that it's fancier than any of the other pizza joints in the nabe. Because it's not a "joint" but a restaurant. Oh... and they deliver.
(3)Ania Z.
Never knew I had such a gem in my neighborhood! Real deal Italian pizza with thin crust! Great service, nice sitting and they got outdoors sitting! Bring your loved once here for a glass of wine and great food!
(5)Myca T.
We came here to carb-load prior to the marathon and they didn't have a crowd out the wazoo. We had pasta, and an appetizer. Food was slow but good.
(3)Mike O.
When you're looking up a place on Yelp, and you see this one place with like 30 reviews, and they're all gushing, you're probably like, "Oh it's a new business and all the owner's family and friends and hopping on Yelp and writing friendly reviews. In other words, you have good reason to hold a healthy suspicion. Not true for Numero 28. I hope more people visit here, eat the food and review it, because this place is truly something special. I dropped in for an early weekend dinner and sat at the bar. The bartender spent more time wiping and putting away glasses than he did tending to me, which may account for the 4 instead of 5 stars, but he did also make the experience interesting. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, and when it arrived, he said, "In my country, we have a saying: good food is worth the wait." I asked him what country he came from. He said Spain. I asked him how he might say that saying in Spanish. He did so, but I don't speak Spanish, so it's already left me (idiot). At any rate, that was the only interesting part of my service, which overall was mediocre. The pizza was unique and phenomenal. It wasn't smothered with sauce, so much of the crust was buttery and garlicky. The pepperoni didn't taste like your standard salty American pepperoni. It tasted like something out of a butcher's shop, like it was cured or something. I can't explain it other than it tasted more like a cured Italian meat than anything like what we usually know pepperoni to taste like. The cheese did it's job, gooey, while not over flavorful. Most of the people here when I came looked to be families on the UWS. I would have loved to come here as a kid. But it's not like it's a family style restaurant. It could be a date night spot, anything. I'm a huge fan. Get this place on your pizza list, pronto!
(4)Doesnt M.
It seemed a little overpriced for what we ordered. The wine was definitely over-priced. Kitchen and waitstaff also seemed to be on different planets. My partner had finished his main course before mine arrived.
(2)J K.
We love it here so much we come once a week... Sometimes more. It gets busy so come early or call ahead... Great place for kids and families. Very good pizza and super friendly staff....
(5)Elaine C.
Came here with a deal from LS on a Friday night - no reservations needed! Staff was incredibly nice, attentive and didn't give me crap about the discount. We were so impressed with service that we tipped over 20% =] Appetizers: Meatball: you get 4 very yummy but slightly overpriced ($10) meatballs about the size of a golf ball each. That's $2.50 for EACH ball! Fries: great hand cut fries with a perfect amount of salt ($5) Main: Sausage and pepper pie: Perfect! Loved the sauce, cheese, toppings, everything! ($15)

Latest addition to the 28 saga. I've already been multiple times to their East and West Village locations over the past few years, and I have to admit a deplorable realization, which I've been in denial about for a while: pizza quality at 28 is going downhill rapidly. The mozzarella they're using is not very good (and certainly not good when compared to buffalo mozzarella, and their more exotic pizzas are increasingly hit or miss in terms of flavor balance. Also, when I ate here the crust was a bit greasy - more similar to what you'd get from an electric oven than a wood-fired oven. Still better than 90% of NYC pizzas, but I will be seeking alternatives when I need my fix.
(3)E S.
The pizza is good. But the delivery is bad. I ordered more than few times and half of them the pizza arrived cold and in bad condition.
(3)Marlene D.
*Cash only!* Thank you, God, for bringing this amazing Pizzeria Napoletana to the Upper Westside. We needed a pizzeria like this. I want this gem to get discovered by all of us, so if you have a pizza craving, go ahead and have some of their thin crust San Daniele pizza or any of the other things they offer on their menu. You'll love it. Amazing mozzarella by the way. They also know how to make a good cappucino. The only little thing is that they slice the pepperoni too thick. Should be thinner IMHO. Decor: Beautiful modern with very nice lighting. Staff: So sweet that I'd like to take them all home. Food: This blows Patsy's away. Dresscode: Wear what you like.
(5)Julia K.
Numero 28 should place a warning on their menu, the pizzas are HUGE! Not to mention tasty. For dinner, my boyfriends family and I spilt a 14 inch veggie pizza, an 8 inch truffle pizza, the tuna appetizer special, a pesto lasagna, and the brushetta. Though the highlight of the meal was the pizza.
(4)Jim M.
Plain and pepperoni were pretty good.
(3)Cynthia S.
The pizza is very good otherwise they'd get 1 star. The service is terrible and takeout? A joke. It just never arrives and when you call they'll insist it's on the way. Restaurant is a bit dirty Clearly the owner isn't around. No one in charge. Too bad.
(2)Shakira C.
This is a great authentic Italian restaurant. My waiter was wonderful and very attentive to his customers. I ordered a rustica and diavola pizza. He even recommended a dessert called tortino al cioccolato which was amazing. I will definitely stop by again.
(5)Jennifer B.
Overhyped place in my opinion. The pizza is okay but tends to be a bit overdone. The last time I had their pizza, it was delivered. Slow, slow delivery but the pizza was still in good shape when it arrived. I ordered the diavola, which had little cheese and tons of meat (reminiscent of Carnegie deli). Ugh. I'd rather go to Little Italy pizza.
(2)Mariela F.
Atmosphere, cute, cafe-like, 4 stars Service, 5 stars Food, 5 stars Value, 5 stars Numero 28 is a very cute little pizza/pasta spot that I'm glad has opened on the UWS. Cash only. The wait staff is very polite and pleasant, and we didn't need to wait for a table around 9pm on a Saturday night so, great! The first time we came were ordered the San Daniele pizza and the Numero 28. The Numero 28 was good but a little too rich (I believe it comes with prosciutto and truffle cream) for my taste. The San Daniele was perfect - arugula & prosciutto & mozzarella combined on the lightest loveliest pizza "sauce" made from obviously fresh tomatoes. The crust was forgetaboutit good - thin, crispy (but a little chewy when it needs to be). There are smoke spots on the pizza from the wood-burning oven; these add an extra layer of deliciousness but the crust is NEVER burnt. Always just right. On another occasion we ordered the involtini di speck e bufala (chunks of bufala mozzarella wrapped in speck) - the favors were simple but well combined. We also had the lamb ragu pappardelle. This was excellent. The sauce was perfection. This place just makes us feel good. It's a feel-good joint.
(5)Joseph Z.
Awesome pizza! I have to say the meatballs were really tasty and in this really rich tomato sauce. And we got the 2 out of 3 marguerita pizza which was also really good. Two thumbs up!
(5)Peter E.
Best pizza on upper west side go for truffle oil artichoke and prosciutto one can't go wrong
(5)mk k.
Simply the best in Manhattan. Nothing more to say. They're pretty accurate when I want my pizza a certain way.
(5)James A.
My favourite pizza place in the UWS.. Not American but truly Italian pizza.. Had the San Daniel and it was divine..
(5)Sarah H.
I would give the pizza here zero stars if I could. Maybe it's better when served in the restaurant but our delivered pizza was undercooked and nearly inedible. A big disappointment
(1)Paul M.
Just last week I took some visiting family down to the carmine location for a numero 28/keste pizza tour. The pizza at that location was amazing. I was surprised to find that another location existed much closer to my abode and so I strolled down there this past weekend, ordered the exact same pizza (doc) but was disappointed to find that the crust seemed unsalted and a bit crackery (too dry) while the sauce was thicker and also needed some salt to complement the acidity. At the prices these places charge, which are too high, they can't be serving up a substandard pizza. Additionally, service was poor; waited forever for the bill when the place was empty.
(2)Rebecca A.
Love this place. Came here after happy hour drinks at Asiakan with a friend (review upcoming :)) and was pleasantly surprised. I think they were understaffed which I think accounted for the up and down service BUT the environment was adorable. Also probably most important the small pizza with prosciutto and arugula was delicious and a perfect size to share. And gorgeous bathroom :)! Will return!
(5)Erica D.
When you open up your their online menu, Chrome offers to translate the page from Italian, which I take as a good sign. The staff are Italian, too--from-Italy Italian, not your-uncle-who-lives-on-Staten-Island Italian. I've only gotten pizza (as takeout) and they're pretty quick. It is cash only but for takeout or delivery you can get around that by ordering through a third-party service online. I've tried the Tartufo but preferred the Romeo (artichoke, truffle cream, prosciutto) even though I don't love prosciutto. It's probably the best pizza I've had in the neighborhood but it is overpriced.
(4)Caree Z.
Good pizza! Met with my hubby and his college friends here (9 ppl) for dinner. We ordered 3 large square pies and 3 salads: 1 San Daniele: tomato, mozzarella, arugula, prosciutto 1 Numero28: buffalo mozzarella, speck, truffle cream, mushrooms 1 Boscaiola: buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, porcini, shaved Parmesan 2 Insalata Di Rucola: arugula salad with pecorino cheese and cherry tomatoes 1 Insalata Di Radicchio: radicchio with gorgonzola and pears Pizza is brick-oven, not super thin, but very tasty, and toppings tasted fresh. I loved how it's not small slices of prosciutto, but big slices folded over, and more than enough cheese for my cheesemonger husband to be satisfied. TimeOutNY tells me this is the 4th in a chain that exists here in NYC and I *definitely* understand why they're doing well. It may be a recession, but good pizza and good burgers will always sell themselves.
(4)Tim M.
This place is great! The pizza was delicious, the wait staff was friendly and it wasn't too bad price wise. Pizza definitely a big step above a Manhattan slice. Highly recommended!
(5)Peter M.
CASH ONLY! - annoying. Great service, good wine, fantastic cookery and very impressive pizzas. The staff is actually Italian, the eggplant parmigiana was some of the best I've ever had and if you order a large pizza - its literally the size of your table, thin crust and delicious.
(5)Marina S.
But never order for delivery.. You will never get your pizzas! Great pizza ...bad delivery time... Never arrived!
(4)Andrea C.
Let's just get two things out of the way... 1) It's cash-only. You've been warned, so be prepared. 2) The people who work here are native Italians. They will not rush you through your meal and they're not eager for you to leave. Dining in most parts of the world is leisurely. These may come across as "bad service", but if you've ever traveled to Europe, especially Italy, you will find this restaurant to be a relaxing environment to visit, relax and enjoy some great pizza and wine. The food here is delicious! I'm originally from Chicago (and we know our pizza!) and Numero 28 has the best Neapolitan pizza I have ever had. Fresh ingredients, thin crust and baked in a brick-oven can't be beat. I came here last night with my boyfriend and his Mom and we loved everything we ordered; the Bruschetta with cherry tomatoes and basil and a 29" pizza which they allow you to choose three pizza types. We did the Rustica, Divola and the Romeo. Hands down, our favorite was the "Romeo"... WOW...fresh prosciutto, artichokes and a truffle cream?!?! I thought it sounded crazy but the combination of flavors was the most amazing gourmet pizza I have ever tried. Go in expecting great food and a casual environment and you'll leave full and happy :) BON APPETIT!!!
(5)Jung L.
This is the best pizza in the neighborhood, hands down. The crust and tomato sauce is fantastic. We had a large pizza and you can choose 3 toppings. We had prosciutto and arugula, eggplant and sausage and marguerita style. We loved them all. 5 stars for the pizza. Service was good but not great. Taking 1 star off for service. Could be a little faster and more attentive, but they try hard. But the pizza makes it all worth it!
(4)Logan S.
My wife and I were so thrilled and relieved to see Pizza No. 28 show up in the neighborhood. We were huge fans of the one in the West Village and have visited the E. Village location a couple times, too. With a dearth of consistently good restaurants -- especially good pizza -- in the area, No. 28 is a welcome addition. As many reviewers here have noted, this isn't an NY pizza joint. It's Italian. The atmosphere is casual; the food relatively simple; the wine list short and pretty reasonable. It's a place to go with friends and take your time. The pizza is delicious. Thin, crispy crust. Great flavor combos (my faves are the Capriciosa and the San Daniela). It's been pretty consistent across the various locations and dozen or so times I've patronized the franchise. I've ordered delivery and have been happy with that, too. I hope the UWS is able to import more of these types of places that we've typically had to go downtown to find.

Don't order delivery! It took over 1.5 hours and the pizza was cold and tasted awful! Way overpriced as well..

Had walked past this place many times and am sad to say I didn't try it sooner. It is now my goto UWS pizza place, If your not into mammoth slabs of dough then this is your place, really fresh ingredients, quality cheeses and meats. Pizza made the way it should be, ex pats from OS (Europe, Australia, NZ) will find this much more agreeable than the slabs of lard served up elsewhere. Friendly staff and a nice ambiance and quick service all complete the package. Also as a extra bonus, bringing my 3y.o. is not a drama, which is appreciated.

One of the few places on the UWS where you can get a good quality pizza. It's a real good neighborhood spot, the staff is very friendly and attentive. Their pizza is very thin and the wood oven really gives the pie a nice charred crust on the bottom. The sauce and cheese are really good and the cheese sauce ratio is right on. What we like even better than the pizza is the Roma panini which is unfortunately only on the lunch menu. This is a real deal sandwich, Prosciutto crudo, fresh mozzarella cheese with arugula pressed between a hand made panini using pizza dough which comes out thin, and very crunchy. They're made to order so you always get one that us freshly baked. I wish they this would be added to the dinner menu.

yummy food, cute atmosphere, very prompt delivery. fresh ingredients! just always a great experience! I love the 5 cheese pizza, the caprese salad, and...omg...the burratta ravioli

This place just opened a month ago, and so far is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. Maybe the last reviewer went on a bad day...I've been 4 times so far, and have had great pizza, terrific wine, and friendly, helpful service every time. On one visit I was getting a pie to go, and they were packed (and a bit overwhelmed), so I had to wait at the bar for maybe 15-20 minutes. I guess this is a while, given how quickly a wood-fired oven cooks a thin crust pizza, so when they realized they were backed up and it would be this long, they offered me a glass of wine. When I tried to pay for the wine, I was refused due to my long wait. The pizzas I've had have been been the standards, bufala and fresh tomatoes or pepperoni, and each has been hot from the oven, some slight charring from the wood fire, chewy good crust, fresh ingredients, and accompanied by a nice glass of primitivo or sangiovese.

I give it three stars because the appetizers were disappointing. I ordered the meatballs and one was blatantly raw in the center while the others were edible. I don't complain much, but did mention that the meatballs were raw when the server picked up the plate with the uneaten meatball. There was no apology for the raw pork meatballs or deduction made made on the final bill. Won't come back because service is lacking.

This really is excellent pizza. We had the mushroom with truffle. Friendly staff.

Had the pleasure of dining here on Saturday after seeing a show at Symphony Space. Truly one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to! The atmosphere is cozy without feeling crowded, the decor is lovely, the service impeccable (can't remember our server's name but she was lovely - short hair, long gold earrings, very friendly and helpful). The food is AMAZING. Absolutely, hands-down the best brick oven pizza I have ever eaten. From start to finish it was a great experience and we will DEFINITELY be back!

The food is pretty good and the staff is great.

Tried this out again and really enjoyed the food. However the service is still awful. Also placed a delivery order, which they advised would be 45 minutes, after and hour and half, I called to cancel it and they advised that they rang the buzzer and no one answered and called my # and no one answered, which was total bullsh*t. If you are to busy for delivery inform the customer don't leave them waiting. Just rude and unprofessional ways of running their business. They have no respect for the customer and that prevents me from wanting to enjoy their food. Business like this don't deserve my hard earned money.

The food and staff are ok. But it's cash only and there is no signage to this effect and it isn't mentioned until after you go to pay.

My friend and I came here on a Saturday evening. We picked it based off of the good ratings it had on here. Unfortunately our experience was different. The food was good, but the service was horrible. We only saw out waiter twice. When he asked what did we want to drink and then when he brought our drinks and took our order. We had to flag down other people to assist us. I wouldn't come back here based on my first experience. They also don't have many "classic" Italian pasta dishes. They only take cash as well.

Amazing everything was good. The staff is very funny and friendly! The atmosphere is typically Italian and they have a big choice of wine! I'll definitely be back!!
(5)Kalynda G.
Really enjoyed everything we ordered: riccola salad, lamb ragu pasta, & caprese pizza (fresh ingredients & savory pizza sauce). In addition, they brought out warm, freshly made bread accompanied by oil & vinegar. Staff was highly attentive and very friendly. Nothing pretentious about this place at all! We really enjoyed our experience! Remember, cash only...pretty sure they have an ATM there.

Great pizzas, good drinks. But somehow loud even when only 3-4 tables are occupied. Very loud when full. Delivery may be the sweet spot.
(3)Kathy K.
The pizza is thin crust and expertly cooked. The service was close to the worse service we have received . Not only did the server forget our drinks the first time - when we ordered a second glass they were also forgotten. We then waited over 20 minutes for the check. We love the pizza. It will be a very long time before we go back to this restaurant.

The pizza was good. The service was O.K. They don't take cards and what baffled us ( 4 ppl) was the fact that they wanted to charge tax on cash sale , not only were they charging tax but it was over 12% tax they were trying to charge. I thought they were trying to include Tip when I saw the percentage , but the server explained it was tax. We didn't want it to ruin our night, so there was no point in trying to prove to them that the tax percentage is not that high, we ended up paying. Definitely won't go there again, for the price and pizza I would rather just make the trip to Grimaldis in Brooklyn where the pizza is better and the prices are reasonable

I found my self searching yelp since I was stuck on the west side during dinner time with a starving 5 year old. Found this spot on a beautiful day, and they had a perfect outdoor patio. We had a spinach salad that was simple and delicious, and then a margarita pizza. Service was really excellent, great little Italian spot, really glad I found it, and if I ever find myself stuck in the 90's on the UWS I know exactly where to go.

I really like this place. My husband and I have eaten here several times since it opened last fall and delivery as well. It was a welcome addition since the UWS is seriously lacking in good pizza. We have had several of the pizzas, all very good especially the 5 formagi and the pepperoni. We really haven't had a bad item yet. The service is also very good. My only complaint is the noise level - particularly the loud piercing, scraping noise the chairs make every time someone moves a chair. Please do something about that - otherwise it would be perfect.
(5)Francesca G.
This pizza is the bomb! My family used to be huge fans of 28 carmine their brother location downtown. We got so lucky they opened on the upper west side. I can eat a medium pizza on my own is so light and fresh. Not to mention the staff is authentically Italian bellisimo like no joke gorgeous. The only thing I am disappointed about is they took my favorite appetizer off the menu, sformatino di funghi. When I think about it my mouth waters but they took it off the menu and I can't find it anywhere. That's the only reason I did not give this lovely find 5 stars. But get the medium size anything pizza and you'll be hooked.
(4)Kourtney L.
Pretty good pizza overall and nice waiter service. Ordered the "Delicata" which was good but a little too heavy on the parmasean cheese. Cash only (like everyone said)
(4)Laz J.
Soooo delicious it's crazy. Had a white pizza with dried beef, arugula (tons of argula, yay!) The wood fired pizza was amazing. The whole experience was like being in Italy but better food haha. Also had the mushroom lasagna which was sublime. Really, go to this restaurant......run!

I've eaten here twice, now, since Numero 28 opened on the UWS. I had modest expectations the first time and was awed by the variety and quality of the pizzas they offer. It was too difficult to pick one and they readily accommodated us by combining 2 varieties into one crispy, oblong pie that was delicious. Our first choice (w/tomato sauce) included mozzarella, truffle cream, mushroom and speck (way YUM- they actually did 1/2 of this with and 1/2 of this without the speck for us) and the second (white) pizza choice included pears, gorgonzola, walnuts and mozzarella (amazing). Not only were the pizzas delicious, the wine selection was good, the appetizers (salad, tuna carpaccio) were very good, and the service was friendly and right on target. Will definitely be heading back for more!

Delicious pizza -- and a really cute atmosphere. One thing to note is that it is cash only -- I believe I saw an ATM there, but if you don't want to pay the fees, then come prepared. This place is pretty close to where I live, so I'm excited to have a go-to for pizza close by!
(5)MrsEmmie C.
Great brick oven pizza, good wine, cute atmosphere...what more can u ask for?!?! Perfect cozy pizzeria, I just wish they accepted credit cards :(
(4)Lola B.
Número 28 offers byob while charging 9$ a person. We called in advance asking if we could bring vodka, beer and wine and were told yes 9$ per person. When we showed up they told us 27$ per person 9$ for the wine 9$ for the beer and 9$ for the vodka. That's insane considering we paid for the drinks to begin with. We were also each sticking to our own bottle not passing all these different drinks around. After explaining what we were told on the phone she said that the person on the phone was mistaken, we said 9$ as we were told or our party of 13 will leave and they will loose a lot of business and they said leave. Very poorly run business for regular run of the mill pizza! The byo option is a scam.

This may just be our new favorite spot close to home. One thing I noticed in other reviews was that many called this a pizza restaurant... I'd call it an Italian restaurant that also serves fantastic pizza. In addition to the pizza, we had Pappardelle al ragu d'agnello which is homemade pasta with braised lamb. It was delicious. Between the wonderful Italian waiter, and the food, we honestly felt like we were back in Italy. Cash only threw us off a bit, but now that we know it's fine. I hope our 2nd time back goes as well, our expectations are very high now!

Best pizza in the neighborhood. Try the bruschetta too.

Love this place! Went with my gfs and we had such a great time the bartender Francesco was helpful, charming and a delight with recommendations and trying some of the specialty cocktails. The pizza - brick oven at its most yummiest, crispy and chessy gooey best! Will be going again the super friendly staff, great ambiance and food makes this a great hang out spot!

It's about the pizza as far as I'm concerned. We never ordered any other menu items. And, the pizza is amazing. We're sitting around our little kitchen table just around the corner from the Numero 28 on Amsterdam. The pizza is still warm, the truffle oil is still glistening on the Tartuffo Pizza and it it wonderful. This neighborhood really needed it. The pizza comes from a flaming brick oven with the slightest bit of char on the crust, a very, very, very good thing. The cheeses are delicious and the crust is chewy and quite clearly hand raised. We had a bit of problem early on with delivery so now we generally just walk around the corner. The delivery service has gotten much better. We were in Rome just a few months back and the the thin crust Roman pizza was a beautiful thing. Numero 28's is every bit its equal, maybe better. And it's a fun place to boot with friendly folks who want you to enjoy a good meal. 5 stars all around. Bravissimo.

was in the neighborhood, looking for a place to eat - since our usual go-to in the area (saigon grill) was shut down! found this place as we were walking and with the confirmation of some yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try. as others have mentioned - cash only! there's also an atm inside if you weren't prepared in advance... food was good. we had the numero 28 pizza (cheese, proscuitto, truffle cream, mushrooms if i'm remembering correctly) and the linguini with lobster and porcini mushrooms. pizza was tasty and interesting. linguini was ok, but a bit bland and pasta was a little overcooked. we ordered dessert on the recommendation of one of the servers (cake with wild strawberries - we were actually thinking about going with the tiramisu but changed our minds because of the server's recommendation). we actually weren't big fans of the dessert. if i'm paying for it and if it's in front of me, i'll eat it - but i couldn't finish it. we asked for the check - one of the waiters asked how we liked the dessert - we mentioned that we weren't big fans and he immediately went and removed it from our check. wow. the gesture left us with a great after taste - service is cordial and pleasant and it seems like they are generally out to please. enjoyed eating here and will be back next time we're in the neighborhood!

Appallingly bad. There was a scant amount of " Buffala Mozzerella" on the pie (I know the difference - this was not the real thing and it was completely tasteless). The cherry tomatoes had no taste. The crust was soggy right out of the oven. My dining companion suggested that Pizza Hut would be an upgrade. Never having had their pizza I was still in agreement. For people with overdeveloped bank accounts and underdeveloped palates there may be some appeal. I left disappointed and hungry.

Very nice place and a truly Italian staff. The Pizza San Daniela was excellent with tons of fresh arugula and prosciutto. We will be back.

Ok I have never actually been to this location but I had them deliver a pizza. It was perhaps the worst pizza experience ever. It was also the most expensive pizza I have ever ordered. $33.75 for a pizza to feed two? It should have been flown from Italy at that price. Never again.
(1)Marc S.
I have to say that this pizza is incredible! I walked into this restaurant totally by chance with my mom tonight and I am thoroughly impressed. This is a must eat. Enjoy!
(5)C B.
Went here last night and the service was terrible. The pizza is overpriced and it was like chewing a huge ball of cheese - hardly enough sauce and so-so crust. The pasta pomodoro should be straightforward to prepare and tasty but it was disappointingly similar to something out of a can. With so many other Italian joints in the area, I would not return here. And their cash only policy is a pain!! Get a credit card machine at least.

Pizzas are great! Great vibe! Try gorgonzola pizza!!
